Brad Newley (199 cm) inks a deal to join AEK Athens (Greece-A1). Newley played for the Sydney Kings (Australia-NBL) earlier this season where he put up 17.6 ppg with 5.0 rpg and 4.1 apg in 23 games. Athens hopes the Australian swingman will bring his scoring capabilities over to the A1. The team currently sits in third place in the standings with a 14-3 record. They also play in the FIBA Basketball champions league, they are in second place in their group. Last season, Newley played with Gran Canaria (Spain-Liga Endesa). In Spain, he averaged 8.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg and 1.5 apg in 20.6 mpg. The 32-year-old Australian is playing in his ninth season professionally. The Houston Rockets drafted Newley in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft, but he never made an appearance in the NBA.
