Walter Sharpe (206 cm, UAB’08) signed a contract with Global Port Batang Pier in the Filipino PBA league. Sharpe is expected to suit up when the Port Masters meet the Air21 Express on March 10.
Sharpe is replacing Justin Williams (206 cm, Wyoming’06) who was sent home by the team deeming his 14.7 ppg and 19.3 rpg in six contests were not good enough. Global Port is ranked 8th in the PBA league (out of 10) with a 2-5 record. They hope Sharpe will help turn things around.
Sharpe was drafted 32nd by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2008 NBA Draft but was traded to the Detroit Pistons. He played eight games for the Pistons before being moved to the Denver Nuggets. He also had a stint with the Milwaukee Bucks before being released in October 2009. He returned with the Memphis Grizzlies in the current 2013 season. In 2012 he played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) with the Guangzhou Free Man where he averaged 28.8 ppg and 19.3 rpg.
Global Port Batang has announced this personnel change will only be the start of a series of changes in the Port Master’s roster.
