Steve Nash

To get to 10,000 assists, Steve Nash (right) of the Lakers has had to pass around, over, under and some times through defenders. Here, he gets the rock by the Warriors’ Stephen Curry.

The first time Steve Nash picked up an NBA assist he was 22 years old, playing for the Phoenix Suns in a game against the Houston Rockets. It was November 2nd, 1996 and would be the start of a career that has now entered 17 seasons and Nash’s third team. Tuesday night, Nash became the fifth player in NBA history to accumulate 10,000 career assists, only John Stockton (15,806), Jason Kidd (11,969), Mark Jackson (10,334), and Magic Johnson (10,141) have joined the 10,000 assist club and sit ahead of Nash on the all-time assist leaders list.

It’s taken Nash 1,162 games to get to 10,000 assists, giving him an 8.6 assist per game average. He’s also carrying a 14.5 point per game scoring average over his career.
