Sonny Weems named Euroleague MVP for Oct.

Sonny WeemsGuiding his team, CSKA Moscow, to a perfect 3-0 record and the top spot in Group D, Sonny Weems has been named the Euroleague’s bwin MVP for the month of October.

Weems has averaged 20.3 points per game over the first three contests of the season, shooting 65.5% (19 for 29) from inside the arc and 93.3% (14 of 15) from the charity stripe. His high game was the 30 he dropped in against Partizan mt:s Belgrade on Oct. 18, including eight in the extra frame it took the 2011-12 Euroleague Final Four runners-up to come out of the contest with a ‘W’. In game one of the new Euroleague season he put his squad on his shoulders and carried them to their first win tallying six points and a key blocked shot in the last minute of play, ending with 14 points. An interesting stat from the first three games is that 29 of Weems 61 total points have come in the either the fourth quarter or during overtime.

CSKA Moscow and their reigning MVP of the Month travel to Istabul on Friday to square off against Besiktas JK Istabul and the key match up will be on November 8th when they entertain also currently unbeaten FC Barcelona Regal.
