Sassari

The final game of Round 3 of the regular season of the Italian Serie A did not disappoint its eager spectators and viewers. Banco di Sardegna Sassari defeated Enel Brindisi 87-78 and kept their unblemished record intact (3-0). This is the first loss for Enel Brindisi and considering it came at the hands of the current top team in the league, fans should expect them to get back on their winning ways soon enough.

The hosts are on cruise control after a strong preseason, winning the 2015 Italian Supercup. They went to their bread and butter, the backcourt tandem of David Logan and Jerome Dyson. The duo combined for 45 points, more than half of the team’s total for the game. Their play dictated the tempo of the game and allowed Banco di Sardegna the ability swamp Enel Brindisi in the first 12 minutes of action, overwhelming them with a 28-9 deficit at the end of the first period.

Enel Brindisi stormed back in the second quarter and quickly chopped Sassari’s lead to a manageable six-point lead (42-36) as both teams walked off to their respective locker rooms. After the break, Logan spearheaded a few rallies on some key possessions to expand his team’s advantage anew. The home team found themselves ahead by 10 points, going into the final period in regulation. Enel Brindisi put up a good fight in the final 12 minutes, but Sassari kept pace and only allowed them to cut into the lead by one point at the final whistle.

David Logan blew up for 27 points as he caught fire from three-point range, sinking 5-of-11 shots from downtown. He also added five rebounds, five assists and three steals to his well-rounded stat line. Jerome Dyson chimed in with 18 points and six dimes of his own. As long as both of these guys stay healthy, Sassari is going to be a force to be reckoned with this 2014/15.

Marcus Denmon was Enel Brindisi’s top scorer with 20 points and Delroy James also did an excellent job with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 boards.  Elston Turner was the only other player from the visiting team to score in double figures with 14 points.
