Rio Claro wins Brazilian Liga Ouro

Rio ClaroRio Claro took a 87-76 victory over Lins Basquete to win the Liga Ouro title and book a place in the Brazilian top flight next season. The Liga Ouro access league has been in full swing since mid-March and Rio Claro has come through the competition to play in the NBB next term.

The hosts took the win to claim a 3-1 series victory and saw Tatu Romualdo collect the Finals MVP after another impressive display which brought him 21 points. However, it was Lins who started the game better by narrowly stealing the first quarter to put the score at 17-18 after 10 minutes. The visiting team held on in the second period and extended its lead to four points, heading in at half time with a 35-39 lead. A huge third stanza from Rio Claro saw the eventual champs pour in 30 points while restricting Lins to just 21 to hold a 65-60 lead after half hour of play. In the final frame the hosts eased down the stretch to take the win and claim the title.

Backing up Romualdo on the Rio Claro roster was Luisihno da Silva with 17 points and Caio Ranches with 15 points.

Caue Freitas led the way for Lins Basquete with 13 points, while Vinicius Telo logged 12 points in defeat.
