Real Madrid

Copa del Rey 2014 – Spanish basketball fans were treated to a Finals game for the ages as nothing less than a “Clasico” match-up between rivals Real Madrid and Regal FC Barcelona went down the wire and ended with an amazing shot with a tenth of a second remaining in regulation. Sergio Llull played the hero for Real Madrid to allow them to come away with the 77-76 victory over Barca thanks to his absolute last-second shot, which will now forever be enshrined in hoops history. This is Real Madrid’s 24th Copa del Rey win.

True to form, the competition between these two clubs was fierce from the beginning. The spirited play of their stars kept the game close throughout its duration. In fact, up to the midpoint of the last period the teams were in a 64-64 deadlock. Tournament MVP Nikola Mirotic, who finished the game with 17 points and 11 boards, nailed a trey from his favorite corner to lift up Madrid. Barca’s Brad Oleson would not give up and completed a three-point play with eight seconds left on the clock. Madrid’s Sergio Rodriguez ran down the court and dished to Sergio Llull who sank the game winning jumper.

Rudy Fernandez led all of Madrid’s scorers with 19 points, while Llull finished with nine points and six assists.

Barcelona’s Ante Tomic and Brad Oleson both anchored the team’s presence down low. Tomic finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Oleson chipped in 11 and six. Marcelinho Huertas was the team’s top scorer and he ended up with 15 points and eight assists.
