Real Madrid Last Unbeaten Team at Liga Endesa

Real Madrid

After the dust settled at the end of Round 6 of the regular season in the Spanish Liga Endesa, only one team emerged unscathed and that was league powerhouse Real Madrid. They were able to edge out a Fuenlabrada 94-96, in what was surprisingly a very challenging match-up on the road for the league favorites. Felipe Reyes and Ioannis Bourousis both finished with double-double performances for Real Madrid to carry their team. Reyes had a team-high 22 points to go along with 10 boards. Bourousis added 14 points and 11 rebounds as both players did some excellent clean up work on the glass during the game. Trailing Real Madrid in the standings are three very competitive teams. Bilbao Basket, FC Barcelona, and Unicaja Malaga are each 5-1.

FIATC Joventut has emerged as “Giant Killer” of sorts. After handing Barca its first loss of the season in Round 5 action, it now played spoiler once again and this time trumped Unicaja Malaga 82-74 to give their first loss as well. After two early losses, FIATC Joventut has now gained some considerable momentum at the expense of some formidable teams and are now 4-2 in the league standings. They employed a balanced attack and managed to dictate the pace of the game. Their outside shooting was not the best, but on sheer volume of attempts they managed to sink 14-of-41 shots from downtown. Unicaja Malaga and Real Madrid were the last undefeated teams heading into this Round 6 and with how the chips have fallen, Real Madrid now sits atop of the league by their lonesome.

Bilbao Basket are currently the number two team in the league thanks to their 76-77 win on the road against La Bruixa d’Or Manresa. Danilo Andjusic led Bilbao with 19 points. La Bruixa d’Or has improved considering how close they were able to keep this game. Their Waterloo is still their penchant for committing turnovers. They shown that they can execute on offense. The team just needs to learn to take care of the ball better and those wins should come soon.

Barca has returned to its winning ways, not letting last week’s setback to FIATC Joventut get in the way of their strong 2014-15 campaign so far. They came away with what ended up being an easy 66-80 victory on the road against Iberostar Tenerife CB Canarias, who are now 3-3. They had to overcome an inspired game by Luke Sikma, who finished with a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds. Sikma lacked support from his teammates and they were unable to keep up with Barca’s attacking offense. Maciej Lampe came up big for FC Barcelona and powered his team with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Baloncesto Sevilla finally captured their first win of the season. They were able to defend their homecourt in 77-73 win against the visiting CAI Zaragoza squad. Sevilla is still in the league’s cellar with their 1-5 record, while CAI Zaragoza slides down to the middle of the standings with a 3-3 slate.
