Point Shaving alleged from Croatia-Cyprus EB match-up

The Cyprus Basketball Federation is considering an inquiry into allegations that there was an attempt to manipulate the score in the Croatia-Cyprus EuroBasket 2013 game held on August 18th. Citing reliable sources, various media outlets in Cyprus are stating that large bets were placed on the game and that Croatia would cover a 50-point spread (Croatia won 93-38). Feeling that the allegations are serious the CBF is considering their options, one of which is to launch a full investigation to see if any members of their squad was involved. This story was first announced by TalkBasket

Cyprus National Team captain Panagiotis Trisokkas talked about the allegations in a radio talk show: “I think there were rumours about big amount of bets made for the first (round) game,” stated Cyprus caption Panagiotis Trisokkas while speaking on talk radio about the allegations. “The thing I want to clarify is that no player of the national team has made a bet on the game. That should be made very clear. We can’t ignore the fact that bets have been made on Cyprus national team games. No one can deny that.”

“I categorically deny that any player of the national team has made a bet.” Trisokkas stated, “In fact I challenge anyone to open all the banking acocunts of all players to check. I ask the Cyprus Basketball Federation to make an inquiry and if a player is found guilty to dismiss him from the team.”
