Panathinaikos wins 4th-straight Greek Cup

Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos Athens flexed its muscles and asserted its dominance over AS Apollon Patras, 68-53, to win its fourth-straight Greek Cup title. This will be the 16th Greek Cup they will be adding to their already stacked trophy case. The green shirts took control of the game early and did not relinquish it at any point of the contest. They outmatched Apollon Patras and it showed in how handily they showed their advantage in the defensive end.

Steadily, after a 9-0 start in the first quarter, Panathinaikos built up their lead and they posted a daunting 19-point edge as both teams headed to their locker rooms for the halftime break, the score sat at 39-20. Despite the notable absence of some of its key players, Panathinaikos did not have any trouble securing the game in the second half to cruise to the eventual victory.  A solid and balanced team effort by Panathinaikos was keyed by game MVP Loukas Mavrokefalidis, who finished with a team-high 13 points. Apollon Patras was led by Toarlyn Fitzpatrick who ended up with a game-high 19 points. Unfortunately, his impressive individual effort was not enough to overcome Panathinaikos’ strength in the paint.
