Novosybirsk wins Russian Cup

NovosybirskNovosybirsk managed to better Dynamo Moscow to lift the Russian Cup after a tight final game between the two Superleague clubs. After 80 minutes Novosybirsk came away with an 81-78 lead but was made to work hard through three quarters for the success.

Dynamo got off to a good start as the Moscow club paced through the first quarter and lead 22-15 after ten minutes of the game. Novosybirsk struggled to get into the game during the second frame and conceded a 36-41 lead to Dynamo Moscow through the long break. The difference on the scoreboard stayed at five points during the third act as the visitors held their lead to hold a 55-61 lead through 30 minutes on the game clock. Novosybirsk left it late but the players finally reacted in a big fourth quarter, posting a 7-0 run on the way to turning the game around.

Sergey Tokrev was the standout player in the game with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, while Igor Smygin had a double-double of 20 points and 11 boards for the winners.

Denis Zakharov kept Dynamo Moscow in the game with 16 points, a number matched by Alexander Fomin in the losing effort.
