Mill Rats ink duo to contracts

Mill Rats(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats continue to stockpile talent for training camp. This time by re-signing Mill Rats veteran, P.J. Young, and adding 6’8 power forward, Cavell Johnson.

Last season, the durable 6’7 Young was the only Mill Rat to appear in all 38 regular season and playoff games. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest, but his defensive intensity and energy meant the most to the club.

Johnson was a teammate of Mill Rats new Head Coach David Cooper at Division I James Madison University from 2004-2006 before transferring to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. At UMBC, he averaged 12.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Mill RatsAfter taking a few years away from the game, Johnson burst back onto the season in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball Association (ACPBL), winning the league championship and garnering the finals Most Valuable Player award.

Cavell Johnson 6’8 power forward
Modibo Diarra 6’10 centre
Micah Brand 6’11 centre-power forward

The Saint John Mill Rats regular season opener is November 3rd at Harbour Station. Season tickets are on sale now at the Harbour Station Box Office and at the Mill Rats Fan Zone in Brunswick Square on the second level (next to Tim Hortons).
