Lukoil Academic announces Sasa Vezenkov as coach

Lukoil Academik Sofia (Lukoil Academic) of Bulgaria’s NBL have announced that its executive director Sasho Vezenkov will be the team’s coach for the remainder of the season. He will serve both as executive director and head coach of the team. Lukoil Academik is currently in first place in the NBL’s standings with an 11-2 record. They share the lead with Levski Sofia, which has an identical win-loss record.

Sasa Vezenkov was once an international basketball player himself. He played one season for Bulgaira’s Balkan Botevgrad Sofia in 1986-87. The Bulgarian native spent most of his career playing in Cyrpus from 1991 to 2002.  He ended his career playing for Cyprus’ Cytavision Apoel Nicosia in 2002. He has been the executive director of Lukoil for the past seven seasons.
