Joey van Zegeren suspended indefinitely

Virginia Tech has suspended junior forward Joey van Zegeren (208 cm) indefinitely, the program announced on Friday. Joey van Zegeren is VT’s third-leading scorer at 9.8 points per game and the team’s leading rebounder at 5.3 per game. He also averages 20.4 minutes per game, fifth on the team.

“Joey failed to meet the expectations we have for our team,” head coach Buzz Williams said in a statement. “He demonstrated a lack of discipline and self-control at practice and as such this suspension was warranted.”

Joey van Zegeren is one of the biggest talents of the Netherlands.  He played for the Rotterdam Challengers and Canarias Basketball Academy (Spain) before joining Virginia Tech during the 2011/2012 season. His best game this season was against Penn State on the 3rd of December when he scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
