Competition format for VTB 2012-13 season defined

The Board of VTB United League at the meeting in Tallin today has defined the final list of participants and format of competition for season 2012/13.

20 clubs will play in the regular season of the League (two-rounds – home and visitor matches) in two groups.

19 participants is already known. They are – CSKA, «Khimki» UNICS, «Lokomotiv-Kuban», «Spartak», «Nizhny Novgorod» (all from Russia), «Zalgiris», «Lietuvos Rytas» (both- Lithuania), «Azovmash», «Budivelnyk» (Ukraine), VEF (Latvia), «Kalev» (Estonia), «Minsk-2006» (Belarus), «Nymburk» (Czech Republic), «Astana» (Kazakhstan).

Also on the Board of the League in Riga today new clubs were accepted into VTB United League – «Neptunas» from Lithuania, «Triumph» from Russia and «Turow» from Poland.

Instead, the Ukrainian «Budivelnyk», which was excluded from participation in the tournament, will be chosen another team.

The regular season of the League will start in October 2012 and be completed in March 2013. The winners of the two groups go directly to the quarter finals and the team, ranked 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th place in groups, will perform with the 1/8 finals.
