FIBA donates

In recent days the Balkan countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia have experienced terrible flooding, leaving 50 dead and half a million displaced people. Heavy rains resulted in flooding and numerous landslides which destroyed 100,000 homes and 230 schools. FIBA and FIBA Europe announced that they will be donating € 100,000 to the ongoing relief effort for the flood-stricken Balkan nations.

Here are some statements made by FIBA officials regarding the tragedy:

Yvan Mainini, FIBA President

“We are extremely saddened to see the devastating impact of the floods which hit Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of those countries at this very difficult time,” he said.

Turgay Demirel, FIBA Europe President

“All of us at FIBA Europe have been following the flooding in the Balkans with great sadness. In difficult times like these, the European and international basketball family must show solidarity with our friends throughout the region and do whatever we can to provide support to those in need.”
