Fenerbahce and Union Olimpija win friendlies

Fenerbahce and Olimpija won friendliesAs the warm up for the 2014/2015 season continues, Turkish giant Fenerbahce and Slovenian powerhouse Union Olimpija Ljubljana picked up comfortable victories. Both teams will compete on the continent this season (Fener in the Euroleague and Union in the Eurocup), and these games proved a pointer to the state of the roster heading into another busy campaign.

Fenerbahce vs. Eskissehir, 98-68
Another summer of heavy recruitment has made Fener one of the teams to watch again during this year’s Euroleague. One of the new recruits put on a fantastic display as current Eurocup MVP Andrew Goudelock went 100% from downtown, sinking 7 from 7 triples on his way to a 25 point total through the game. The team as a whole looked good from beyond the arc, sinking over 90% of their field goals from three range.

The result never looked in doubt as Fenerbahce powered through the first quarter to lead 28-21 at the first break. In the second 10 minutes the team pulled further ahead as Goudelock drove the team to a 57-36 lead at the midway point. The second half proved closer, but Fenerbahce still extended its lead to win comfortable by 30 points at the end of regulation.

As well as Goudelock, Fenerbahce had Izzet Turkylmaz on 15 points and Semih Erden with 11 points by the close of play.

Matt Walsh set the tone for Eskissehir with 20 points, while Bugrahan Tuncer scored 13 points.

Trieste vs. Union Olimpija Ljubljana, 62-99
Slovenian heavyweight Union Olimpija went one point shy of a ton against Italian Trieste in a pre-season thrashing.

As the scoreline suggests, the game was never in doubt as Union Olimpija led from the first buzzer, carving their second tier Italian opponents apart in Q1 to lead 20-27 at the first split. The Slovenians added another six points to the deficit throughout the second quarter, taking a comfortable 50-34 lead into the locker room at halftime. The third quarter brought much of the same as Ljubljana extended its lead through the stanza to lead by a massive 34 points after 30 minutes on the hardwood. A winning fourth frame only sealed what had long been inevitable, an easy win for the visitors.

Alen Omic secured 14 points for the winning effort, while Paolo Marinelli and Hristo Nikolov scored 12 apiece.

Stefano Tonut kept Trieste in the game with 25 big points, followed by Murphy Holloway with 15 points.
