Eurocup: 13 teams remain unbeaten after Week 2

Week 2 of Eurocup competition is now in the books with 20 games being played Wednesday to complete this week’s schedule. With just two weeks completed, there are only 13 teams out of 48 still undefeated, with Groups A, D, E, F, and G sporting two undefeated clubs, the rest having just one. This week’s action saw a number of games go down to the wire and a number of sounds defeats.

Group A
In Group A contests CEZ Basketball Nymburk defeated Cibona Zagreb, 84:76, to improve to 1-1 on the young season. Rasid Mahalbasic led CEZ with 25 points and a PIR of 33. DJ Strawberry scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Cibona, who falls to 0-2 with the loss. Telenet Ostend (1-1) picked up a 69:84 win on the road against the Artland Dragons. Andrija Stipanovic scored 20 for Ostend while Lawrence Hill dropped in 16 for the Dragons, who drop to 0-2. FoxTown Cantu stayed 2-0 after their 65:77 road win over Le Mans Sarthe Basket, who are now 1-1 on the season. Cantu got 23 from Joe Ragland, while JP Batista scored 14 for Le Mans.

Group B
EurocupGroup B had two games on Wednesday with Bilbao Basket winning an overnight contest over Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, 94:100. Antanas Kavaliauskas was game-high with 21 points for Bilbao. Drake Diener scored 23 for Sassari in the loss. Cedevita Zagreb improved to 1-1 on the season with an 88:75 win over Belgacom Spirou Charleroi, who dropped to 0-2. Cedevita got 20 from Nolan Smith, while Mohamed Abukar was game-high for Belgacom with 27 points.

Group C
Valencia Basket stayed on top of Group C with an 88:74 win over Ratiopharm Ulm. Sam Van Rossom scored 19 to lead Valencia, while Trent Plaisted scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to pace Ratiopharm. Cimberio Varese improved to 1-1 on the season with a 77:71 victory over Paris Levallois. Keydren Clark scored 21 for Varese and Aloysius Anagonye lead Paris with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Asvel Villeurbanne Lyon earned their first win of the season with a 64:56 decision over Union Olimpija Ljubljana. Asvel got 12 points from both Chris Wright and Edwin Jackson and Olimpija got a game-high 18 from Deividas Sailus.

Group D
BCM Gravelines Dunkerque stayed with Alba Berlin at the top of Group D with a 74:66 win over Telekom Baskets Bonn. Yakhuba Diawara and Marcus Lewis led Gravelines with 16 points, while Benas Veikalas scored 18 for Telekom. Alba Berlin kept pace with Gravelines with a 71:68 win over CAI Zaragoza. David Logan scored 18 for Alba and Giorgi Shermadini scored 14 for CAI.

Group E
Group E still has two undefeated teams after Week 2 as Hapoel Jerusalem picked up their second win with a 67:74 victory on the road against Igokea Aleksandrovac. Derwin Kitchen scored 17 for Hapoel Jerusalem, and Ramon Galloway scored 13 for Igokea. Pinar Karsyiaka Izmir also earned their second win after they defeated CSU Asesoft Ploiesti, 72:80. Pinar got 25 points and a PiR of 33 from Bobby Dixon, and Filip Adamovic scored 19 points to pace Asesoft. Khimki Moscow Region improved to 1-1 with a 79:85 road win over Lukoil Academic Sofia, who lost their second game. Marko Popovic scored 27 for Khimki and earned a PIR of 33 for the contest. Sergey Monya scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Lukoil.

Group F
Khimik Yuzhne moved to 2-0 with a 78:76 win over Nizhny Novgorod, who drops to 1-1. Nizhny had a shot to force OT, but came up empty. Jamal Shuler scored 18 for Khimik and Petr Gubanov dropped 21. PAOK Thessaloniki got their second win on the season with an 88:89 road win over Alba Fehervar. Kostas Charalampidis connected on a pair of singles with 45 seconds to play that turned out to be the game winner. Fehervar had a shot to win the game at the buzzer but came up short.

Group G
VEF Riga stay on top of Group G after Wednesday’s 62:67 road victory over Kalev Cramo Tallinn, who fall to the bottom of the group at 0-2. Kristaps Janicenoks led VEF with 14 points, with Bamba Fall leading Kalev with a game-high 16. In there first ever Eurocup victory, Maccabi Haifa Bazan pulled off a come from behind win over MZT Skopje Aerodrom, 83:86. Ike Ofoegbu was game-high for Maccabi with a 18P/14R double-double. Skopje was led by Stefan Sinovec and Todor Gecevski scoring 17 each.

Group H
Taking over the lead in Group H is Panionios Athens after a tight 68:69 win over Spartak Saint Petersburg. The loss is the first for Spartak. Marc Carter was game-high with 23 points. Jared Homan turned in a 16P/10R double-double for Spartak. Radnicki Kragujevac got their first win of the season at the expense of Bisons Loimaa, 92:89. Dennis Seeley was high man with 23 points for Radnicki, while teammate Marko Marinovic turned in a 20P/10A performance. Frank Robinson led Loimaa with 24. Chris Lofton knocked down a game-winning triple to give Besiktas Integral Forex Istanbul their first Group H win of the season with a 70:72 road win over Neptunas. Bradley Buckman turned in a 23P/13R double-double to lead Besiktas, while Martynas Mazeika led Neptunas with 17.
