Enel Brindisi wins BMW Cup

Hosts Enel Brindisi have triumphed in the preseason tournament BMW Cup IV Memorial Elio Pentassuglia. It is the fourth year that the two-day tournament, honoring the memory of great Italian player and coach Aurelio “Elio” Pentassuglia. He is an important coach in Italian basketball, earning the Van Zandt Coach of the Year award in 1969, two junior national titles, as well one Korac Cup with Sebastiani Rieti. The event was held on September 19-20.

Enel Brindisi beat Banco di Sardegna Sassari, 72-60. Enel Brindisi had a distinct advantage coming into the Final match-up. Sassari has been doing its best to perform optimally despite missing some key players like Jerome Dyson. Nonetheless, the injury handicap did not stop Sassari from putting in an inspired effort. In the end, Enel Brindisi’s Marcus Denmon was able to put up an excellent game, scoring 20 points for his team. He led his team in the second half of the game, stretching their lead to 11 points after three periods. Delroy James and James Mays managed to put enough pressure in the paint on Sassari, with James Mays adding 17 points in the contest. Recent addition from the Dominican Republic, Edgar Sosa led Sassari 14 points. Teammate Jeff Brooks added 13.
