Derrick Byars gets contract extension with Alba

Derrick Byars

Derrick Byars (201 cm, Vanderbilt’06) came to Alba Berlin (Germany-BBL) in Nov., 2012 on a contract only through the end of the season. On Wednesday the club informed Byars that they would like to extend that contract through the end of the 2012-13 season. In the first 10 games he’s played, he’s dropped in 7.5 points per game, including 12 against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Euroleague competition and 11 against Unicaja, also in a Euroleague game, and Bayreuth, in a German BBL game. Byars also hauled in nine rebounds in Alba’s Dec., 27th match up with Real Madrid in the first round of the Euroleague Top 16.

“Before the game in Bayreuth I learned of my extension and it feels very good to be able to stay here”, said Byars. ”I am very happy that the coach is pleased with my work so far and trusts me and my abilities.”
