David Stern announces end of tenure at NBA

David SternDavid Stern, NBA Commissioner, took the opportunity at the 2012 NBA Board of Governors meetings to announce that he will step down as the NBA’s long-standing Commissioner in February 2014. Stern took over the position as the league’s commissioner on Feb. 1st, 1984, which will mean that he’ll retire after 30 years at the helm. He also announced that NBA Deputy Commissioner, Adam Silver, will take over as commissioner.

Stern turned 70 years old in September, 2012.

    How come he names next commissioner? Is he a king in a kingdom? He is just a delegate selected by NBA owners. Isn’t this right belongs to board?

      Stern announced Silver as his replacement, but the Board did discuss and vote on Silver’s appointment to the top spot. I’m sure Stern highly recommended Silver considering the fact that they’ve been working together for 20 years…

        Silver also had a HUUUGE role in the last lockout negotiations. He held up well.
