More than anything, we know that Basketball is not only a U.S. sport anymore.
UTENA – Darrick Leonard (190 cm, Aurora University’07) became the first player of the new season to clinch the Baltic Basketball League (BBL) Player of the Month honors after being chosen as the league’s best player in October.
The 28-year-old American guard has emerged as the key player for Juventus, maintaining consistency throughout the whole month as the Lithuanian side won three of five games to finish the month in the second spot in Group B.
Leonard has had an incredible impact to Juventus’ game across the board, averaging 17 points, 7.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game to lead the team in all three major statistics categories.
His most impressive performance of the month came on October 16 against Jelgava, when he scored 27 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out six assists on the way to an efficiency ranking of 45.
Having spent the last several seasons in Lithuania, Leonard seems to have finally found an ideal fit in Utena, where he is enjoying a big role, with much of the team’s game built around his multidimensional skills.
