CEZ Nymburk wins 12th straight NBL title

CEZ NymburkCEZ Nymburk has won the Czech Republic NBL once again after overcoming BK Decin 96-59 to sweep the finals series 3-0. Few hoops fans in the country or beyond will be surprised by the result, after-all, Nymburk has been dominating the NBL for over a decade. Victory here marked the club’s 12th consecutive league crown, a run stretching way back to the 2003/2004 season and makes the club the winningest in the league’s history.

Nymburk had already dealt with Decin in fine fashion in Game 1 and Game 2, winning 69-64 in the former and 61-87 in the latter. In Game 3 the defending champs had home court advantage and even more gears to move into as they simply took BK Decin out in deadly form. The hosts took the lead early on and never looked back, dominating their guests in the paint (48 points to 28 points), while also looking more organized in offence, laying on 24 scoring passes compared to Decin’s 10.

By half-time CEZ Nymburk had opened a 44-22 lead courtesy of a 20-11 first quarter and a 24-11 run in the second act. With a huge double digit lead on the scoreboard the champs eased through the second half, going big in the third quarter with a 27-14 charge before wrapping the title up with a 25-23 winning final stanza.

Jiri Welsch topped Nymburk with 13 points, followed by Christian Burns with 12 points, Derek Raivio with 11 points, and Martin Kriz with 10 points.

Thomas Vyoral grabbed a game high 17 points for the defeated Decin, the problem being he was the only player on the roster to register double digits.
