Bahamas wins 7th CBC Championship

BahamasThe most successful country in the history of the CBC Championship retained the crown in 2014 as the Bahamas defeated Cuba 64-74 in the final. Throughout the final day of the competition all the other positions were also settled.

The Bahamas was chasing a record 7th CBC Championship title, while Cuba was looking for just its second. It was the Cubans who got off to the better start in the final and closed out the first quarter with a 17-14 lead. In the second frame the Bahamas hit back with a strong defensive display that restricted Cuba to just 12 points. 20 points from the champs during the period put the score at 29-34 at halftime. In the third stanza the Bahamas stretched its lead by winning the 10 minutes 14-17 to lead 43-51 with just the fourth quarter to come. In the final period the scoring picked up as Cuba chased a comeback, but the pushing left more holes for the Bahamas to exploit, and they duly did just that to win the game and the title.

Alonzo Hinds and Marvin Gray were instrumental for the success of the winners, contributing 22 points apiece to pace the Bahamas.

US Virgin Islands vs British Virgin Islands, 102-68

The Virgin Islands nations met for the second time in the tournament and once again it was the dethroned champs the US who emerged victorious. They swept to victory over the tournament hosts to snap up third place, while the British Virgin Islands took 4th.

Barbados vs. Guyana, 58-79
Guyana wrapped its Caribebasket tournament in style by cruising to victory in the 5-6 place game. The country tied down 5th place in the competition while Barbados had to settle for 6th.

Antigua vs. Saint Vincent, 109-81
Antigua ended its competition on a high in the 7-8 place game. The country gunned down Saint Vincent to take seventh place, resigning their opponents to last.
