Four games capped off the seventh round of the German BBL. ALBA Berlin continued their strong start in the 2015-16 season, keeping their pristine record intact with a convincing win over Telekom Baskets Bonn, 57-77. The loss sends Telekom Baskets to sixth place in the league with their 5-2 slate. One of the more crucial game results last night came from the game between FC Bayern Muenchen and Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt. The Skyliners won at home, 74-69, handing Bayern their second loss of the season. Both clubs now share identical 5-2 records. Brose Baskets Bamberg secured their third place position (5-1) after dropping the Walter Tigers Tuebingen on the road 88-98. Lastly, Basketball Loewen Braunschweig (3-4) improved their standing by grabbing their third win of the season against the struggling Crailsheim Merlins (2-5). Brauschweig is now in 10th position.

Telekom Baskets Bonn vs. ALBA Berlin, 57-77

ALBA Berlin is undoubtedly the “team to beat” at this point in the season. They’re off to a fantastic start and have so far been able to dominate most of their competition. While the season is still young, the burden is now left to the rest of the league to be able to find a solution to ALBA Berlin.

This was an easy victory for the Beko BBL’s top dog. ALBA Berlin came in and led from start to finish. They came in and rushed to a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Their hosts tried to make a comeback in the second frame and were in fact successful in culling the lead down to three points by halftime. After the break, it was all ALBA Berlin, all the way. They exploded for an additional 10-point edge in the third period and did not look back.

Will Cherry led three other ALBA Berlin players to score in double figures. He finished with a game-high 18 points, while also handing out five assists. Aaron White topped out for Telekom Basket with 14 points of his own.

Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt vs. FC Bayern Muenchen, 74-69

Jordan Theodore exploded for a game-high 22 points for Fraport SKY. The hosts found their offensive groove at the right time. The used a big swing in the third quarter to seize the lead from their guests. They overcame a solid double-double effort by Bayern Munich’s John Bryant, who finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The game was close and could have gone either way. Fraport just gutted it out and proved that they wanted the win more. Their unselfish play and a well-rounded team effort prevailed for them in the end.
