Alcaldia wins first Nicaraguan title

Los Leones de la Alcaldia have won the Nicaraguan Premier League after a 76-64 home victory over Costa Caribe in the decisive seventh game of the finals series. The Alcaldia team defeated a Costa outfit that was defending the title it won in 2013 after the reigning champions went through the regular season undefeated. It was also a history making victory for Los Leones as they claimed the first title in the history of the club.

It was the defending champs Costa Caribe that laid down an early marker though, claiming the first 10 minutes 16-13. In the second frame the hosts found a footing in the game and reeled off eight unanswered points to take a 38-31 halftime lead. In the second half the home team kept the deficit large enough to cruise through Q3 and Q4, ensuring the title came to the club for the first time.
